Brunei Targets Over 2 Million Air Passengers by 2030
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 28 (Bernama‑Xinhua) — Brunei has set ambitious targets to boost passenger traffic at Brunei International Airport to more than 2 million travelers annually and handle 38,000 tonnes of air cargo by 2030. The announcement was made by Pengiran Shamhary Pengiran Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, who emphasized that these goals form part of the ministry’s strategic plan to strengthen the nation’s aviation sector.
Strengthening Aviation and Connectivity
The initiative is designed to enhance connectivity, improve logistics capabilities, and support Brunei’s broader economic growth. Plans include exploring the establishment of a low‑cost carrier to operate from Brunei International Airport, making air travel more accessible to regional passengers. The government is also studying the corporatisation of airport management, aiming to improve operational efficiency, service quality, and overall competitiveness.
Tourism as a Key Driver
While aviation growth is central to Brunei’s economic vision, tourism plays an equally vital role. The country’s rich cultural heritage, pristine environment, and unique attractions offer strong potential to draw international visitors.
